The Bolonia Process represents one of the most outstanding developments registered in higher education in the last two centuries. Its impact is having a wide effect outside the European borders, reaching many other regions of the world. It has also received close attention in the Ibero-American area, even though many specialists in higher education do agree on the difficulties of its direct translation to the region. These qualified judgements could give the impression of an inapplicable initiative outside Europe. Nevertheless, there is no doubt about its impact. On the one hand, the EU has promoted or supported the transfer of some Bolonia instruments – like Tuning - to Ibero-America. On the other hand, the region faces challenges related to integration and internationalization similar to the European ones. This obliges to develop new approaches and tools to facilitate students’ mobility and to increase the transparency of degrees and qualifications. The recent impulse given to the Ibero-American Space of Knowledge by the Ibero-American Summits aims at creating a common space in the fields of higher education, scientific research and technological development. OEI is contributing to that task, especially through the activity of its recently created Centre for High Studies.
